Mr. Cartwright was born in Michigan and now resides in Greensboro, North Carolina. By the age of five, he had lost both of his parents within six months and was placed in an orphanage in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Though these early years were marked by profound struggle, they also began shaping the resilience, perspective, and creative vision that would define both his life and his art.
Over time, the presence of supportive individuals who believed in him offered hope, renewed his spirit, and gave new meaning to his journey. These themes of possibility and transformation are woven deeply into Cartwright’s work. Much like his own life, he seeks out lost and abandoned objects, reimagining them with new purpose and vitality. His abstract art, alongside his found-object creations, speaks to renewal, resilience, and the power of hope.
Well known in the Triad arts community, Cartwright has owned two galleries in the area and exhibited in notable venues, including ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan—the largest art show in the country. His work is currently on view at ArtMongerz Art Gallery in downtown Greensboro, and by appointment at 336-543-6528.
